With a client recently expanding and taking over a new premises across a car park a connection to the existing premises was needed. With no routable ducts available there were only 2 viable options.

Option 1 install a new line with broadband in the new office and link to existing office via a VPN. monthly recurring charges of line rental and broadband

Option 2-Install a radio link to connect the 2 buildings which only has installation and setup costs.

Network radio link between 2 buildings

As there was clear line of site Option 2 was taken. The site only had poor ADSL2+ and with monthly recurring charges of line rental and broadband it was going to be a very slow and costing connection. The solution employed was a Ubiquiti wireless bridge utilising the NanoStation each end. These units can provide up to 300Mbps connection over a short distance and supposedly go up to 13kms. Since all the hardware is situated in the external unit there is no signal loss as with the conventional radio cable and antenna configuration. We have also used these in a residential environment where one consumer could get FTTC yet his friend ½ mile away could not.
